The collection consists of forty-five items, including: fifteen letters to Clarence Winchester, 1932-1940, discussing literary and personal matters, including the projected film version of his novel, Magnolia Street; eight letters and papers, 1940, about a German artist named Naegele, whose Jewish wife and sons had fled Germany, and Golding's efforts to help him, including a letter to Anthony Eden and responses from Eden's office; twelve miscellaneous letters, telegrams, and articles having to do with Golding's novel, Mr. Emmanuel, and typescript prospectuses of his work, circa 1939; five issues of the Polish Jewish Observer, 1943-1944, with news of the war and Jewish participation; May 1944 issue of the Jewish Bulletin, describing the battle of the Warsaw ghetto; three German-language periodicals, 1933-1934, including Deutsche Kultur-Wacht, Hallische Hoschschul-Blätter, and Die Nationalsozialistische Gemeinde; page of notes, undated, resembling a to-do list or itinerary.
